Best Casual Restaurants in Nashville

Nashville is a fun town known for country music and cheap drinks. While it’s definitely a place to have a good time, with 100 people moving to the city every day, the food scene has really exploded. Don’t come here on a diet because you’ll miss out on all the delicious food Nashville has to offer!

We’ve been to Nashville twice – once for a family vacation and once for a business conference. While there are a lot of more upscale restaurants in the city, we think the casual places are where Nashville really shines. There’s nothing like Southern hospitality! If you’re planning a trip to Nashville, here are some fantastic, casual restaurants you don’t want to miss.

Biscuit Love is a more modern take on a southern classic. The breakfast and lunch restaurant started as a food truck and now has 2 locations in Nashville (we went to the one in The Gulch) and one in Franklin, TN. All of their menu items are made entirely from scratch and sourced from local purveyors. This place gets pretty packed, so try to get there early to avoid a long line.

Things to try:

  • East Nasty
  • Biscuit and Sausage Gravy
  • Southern Benny

The Gulch

Hot chicken is a thing in Nashville. If you want it, you have to get it at Hattie B’s. Come prepared to wait, as there is usually a line to get into this place, no matter what location. They have 6 different heat levels, ranging from Southern (no spice) to What the Cluck! (extremely hot). I can handle spice pretty well and found the medium to be pretty hot, so you’ve been warned!

Things to try:

  • Any variety of hot chicken!

There are 3 Hattie B’s Locations in Nashville:

Broadway:
112 19th Ave S

West Nashville:

This is another place that will likely have a line out the door, but it’s worth the wait! Martin’s specializes in whole hog barbeque and starts the process every day at 5 am. Along with the pork, their brisket and sides are delicious as well and are all made in house.

Things to try:

  • Whole Hog Platter
  • Beef Brisket
  • Mac and Cheese (it’s seriously so good!)

Since 1951,Loveless Cafe has been serving up southern style home-cooked meals. If you’re looking for a true, traditional Southern meal, this is the place to go. The portions are huge, the food tastes fantastic and the staff is filled with Southern hospitality. Their cooks arrive at 3 am every day to make their world-famous biscuits, which are served with every meal. They make about 10,000 a day!

Milk and Honey is a fun, hip spot located in The Gulch. The inside of this restaurant is really gorgeous and the food is even better. It’s a great brunch place, but they have a full lunch and dinner menu as well. They also have a coffee and juice bar, making it a good place to get something to go.

Things to try:

  • Avocado Toast
  • Sausage, Egg and Cheese on a Sourdough Biscuit
  • Short Rib Grilled Cheese

Milk and Honey is located at 214 11th Avenue S

Goo Goo Shop

I couldn’t end this list of Nashville restaurants without mentioning something sweet. The Goo Goo Shop is a candy store located just off of Broadway in Downtown Nashville. It is home of the famous Goo Goo Cluster, a chocolate bar with marshmallows, peanuts and caramel inside. Need I say more?

The Goo Goo Shop is located at 116 3rd Ave S (across from the Johnny Cash Museum)

Nashville is a fun city with lots of great food! Be sure to stop at these amazing, casual restaurants when you’re in Nashville.
